Annie O at 4 weeks

Annie O is now 4 weeks!!! A few quick pictures of this very big girl... She gets this from her daddies lines!  She is such a cutie. Another really fluffy girl, whose fur just gets thicker and longer by the day.  Will it stop, or will she be a Longhair Pixiebob like her mum?

Here's a few with her mum.. for you to get an idea on how big this girl is!

She looks to have the same hairstyle going on as her mummy here..

Another perfectly straight faultless bobtail kitten, with a nice length too!  We're very lucky they ALL take after dad!

Maybe you'll see why we're having such a tough time working out who should stay here at Totallycoastal, we want them all... We've had some fantastic babies in our litters.

The Nautical 3 are almost 3 weeks old now!

The kittens are now old enough to start having their individual portraits posted.  So you can keep a track on your own personal favourite (HMS Martin, HMS Alyssum or HMS Mayflower).

Here's Annie!

How cute is this Annie O? She is just the most cutiest personality ever. All she wants to do is be close to you or her older cousins. She squeaks to get her favourite cousins to come and share her pen with her, and then she wants to snuggle up to them. Here she is doing her investigations around the pen.   Hasn't she got the most perfect length bobtail?

The widest head and muzzle, plus the most beautiful eyes. Many have said, a Pixiebob eyes are a window to their soul....
I can see what they mean, with Annie when she looks at you, there's a strange connection and you see a different take on the world.
Annie here, trying to nudge Broadside for some attention.

Dakota x Ed Kitten

Dakota had a beautiful baby born last week too! I think its a girl, and have been holding off posting until I was at least 75% certain, and thought of a name for her.
I've decided on the call name of Annie, but still can't decide on a name for the registry...as she matures I'm sure something will automatically spring to mind.
Again I haven't had an opportunity to get any good photos yet (sorry), but as soon as I do, you'll be the first to know. Annie has a hock length tail with no faults, fantastic chubby and chunky kitten, with a great profile and wide round head, she looks to be shorthair and I think she'll be very much like her Daddy Ed.  Her eyes fully opened yesterday and she is simply gorgeous, not that I'm bias or anything.

3 Beautiful Nebraska x Ed Bobbies

Nebraska had 3 beautiful kittens on Monday morning.  2 bobtails (1 short like mum, and 1 exactly like dad) and 1 longtail all flawless. All of these babies are exceptionally chunky, but this seems to be a common trait passed on from Ed/Ollies line and was to be expected.
I know you'll be eager to see pictures of the trio, which I will post as soon as I have an opportunity to capture them on a photo!
I am not totally sure on the sex of these kittens yet, but first glance appear to be 1 boy and 2 girls.  I am holding off naming until they are in their second week and to sex more confidentally.

Our Champ Ed

We attended the Ticked TICA Show at Swanley, Kent this weekend. We took Paddy Paws to meet and greet people, and Ed to compete. This was his first time out as an Adult cat and seriously competing for titles.
Would he stand up to the challenge of all the other experienced and already titled cats? I can now say, yes he did.  In fact he beat a lot of them... there were 63 adult cats after titles and points, amongst those our boy shone through to the USA judges.  We scooped 2nd Best Cat TWICE against ALL the Breeds, and also an 8th Best All Breed too. To top it all, we've taken Best of Breed , Best in Colour, and Best in Division in all 12 rings.   Paddy wanted to claim the placement as his...But Ed knew the rosettes belonged to him.  We think this went to Eds head a little....
Heres some pictures of him in his show cage after his first 2nd Best Cat placement.  Ed is now titled and has enough points for Grand Champion... we just need to get 3 more finals of any kind (Specialty or All breed) and any place.. as we already have the important ones to qualify for the higher titles.

Big Mac grows & grows....

Look at the size of this boy, this was taken last week... he's even bigger now.   For a 2 week old kitten he is just huge. Will Big Mac Supersize Me keep this rate of growth going??

We might have Kitten Kong on our hands... Don't worry Big Mac, I have no intention of changing your name to Twinkle.  Some of you 30 somethings and over, might know what I'm going on about.  For those of you that think I've gone mad, click the link to be in the know!
He is also taking on that more cat like look about him now, dont you think?

Pixiebobs, their Tricks and Funny ways

I have more than my fair share of Pixiebobs, and I have noticed over time how the girls seem to develop their own little tricks. Not sure why none of my boys invent things, their interests are soley on Women, Food and Sleep and a lot of fuss made over them (sound familar ;oP). They'll sometimes pick up on a trick if it benefits them in some way but otherwise thay are just not interested.

Anyway this has become such a prominent thing amongst them, that I just had to write a blog entry for it. Everyone knows Pixiebobs are highly intelligent so in a way this doing tricks thing is not surprising. The thing that is amazing about this, is they are not taught these things. Like you'd teach a dog to roll over or beg etc. They either learn from observation, or they just logically think its the sensible thing to do.  OK so enough rambling, lets get down to what each of these girls does.

Starlight, well her favorite thing is opening doors.  Now I'm not talking cupboards here, quite a few cats learn this and usual the cupboard with the food in... I'm talking a full size room door with a latch handle. She jumps up, grabs the handle and pulls it down, shifts her weight so it opens. She even sometimes closes them, standing on her back legs and leaning on it!  Her next favourite thing is turning on lights, unfortunately she hasn't yet decided to turn them back off again but maybe thats to come.  Luckily this is only the pull cord variety so restricted to both toilets and the bathroom, but she'll jump up and grab the cord with her paw. I wouldnt be surprised if she doesnt work out a regular switch sooner or later, she is by far the most observant of them all.

Alessi her thing is turning on taps, and opening cupboard doors. She has now taught the tap trick to Starlight and Paddy too. Even Ed has a go, but hasnt quite got the hang of it.

Shenona does have her little trick, but it is only to spite the others and claim her property.. She can be a minx at times.  Anyway her thing is to drink the water she wants, and then wee in the bowl so no one else can drink from it.  Thankfully she only seems to favour one of the bowls as hers, and the others she leaves alone.

The latest thing is Lil' Spud, I have no idea where she got it from... She uses her litter tray and then afterwards she washes her paws.  Now I'm not talking licking them, I mean she sticks them in a bowl of water gives them a good old swish around and then pulls them out and licks them dry.  It had been for some time that I kept finding one of the water bowls with residues of litter in the bottom of it.  It was no where near a tray and I couldnt work out how it was happening. Then yesterday, I saw Spud washing her feet, mystery solved... like why didn't I think of that before!!  Anyway she has claimed this bowl as her foot bath.

None of them seem to bother doing anything other than drink from the water fountains so I've resigned myself to buying several more of these... the only way to ensure they'll have drinking water available.  But they are the most funniest intelligent cats I've ever shared my life with.

Now I know its not just MY Pixiebobss that do tricks (many owners and breeders have reported this). Although I've yet to come across any that do the same as mine.

They also have little quirks, Shenona makes a funny little sucking movement like a baby with a dummy. Star likes to ride on my shoulder, Alessi adores sinks, Ollie obsesses with plastic bags and has to sit on it or claw it, Morgana obesses with Feathers. Spud has to be close to your skin so will try to climb inside your clothes, Ed wants to eat all day and Paddy would put Play above Eat, Sleep or breathing if he could. They are so individual and never cease to make me laugh.

Pixiebob kitten vs Bobcat Kitten

This is Edward Red Esq as a Baby...Ahhh Sweet! But look how closely he resembled a bobcat kitten.  This is when I knew I had to have this boy. I was convinced he'd be a very handsome man when he grew older, and equally convinced his bobcat looks would also flourish.  I think I made the right choice :o) Ed's been doing really well in the TICA shows kitten class. His next show will be as an Adult and competing for Championship titles, watch this space.

Bobcats Vs. Pixiebobs

Left is a Bobcat Kitten, yet to develop its full red toned coat.
Right is Our Pixiebob (kitten) future stud Edward Red Esq. The camera's are not quite at the same angle, but you can how closely a pixiebob mimics a bobcat, without combining any bobcat genes.
Ed is 100% pure Pixiebob.

Pixiebobs are NOT a hybrid breed. You'll clearly see that we aim to replicate the Muzzle Shape, the Deep Brow, Ear tufts, large Fleshy paws, chunky Legs and all the markings of the spotty coat Bobcat (Lynx Rufus). Again is another comparison on Bobcat (on the right) and Pixiebob, this time Alessi (on the left).

Brow lines become straighter and more defined as a Pixiebob matures, and it will always be more prominent in a male than a female. This also rings true for the bobcat as well, as shown in the Bobcat kitten (top left) and the adult shown (bottom right).

Shenona Pics and Update

Does my bum look big in this?
Well actually Shenona it does, but of course its just the camera.
Besides you still look fantastic depite the ..er bum.
I nice bristly fleshy chin and displaying her plump whisker pads very well in this picture.
Exactly what were looking for in the breed. Shenona you're beautiful. Back from the show and looking quite coy.
This would have been a great shot if the camera had focused properly.. but I had to post it... because it's the only one of Shenona sitting on her cushion.
Those Lynx Tips still growing and looking glorious.
Looking gorgeous, but she's trying to destruct it by laying in her litter tray.
That's no place for a Queen.
Shenona At the Swanley show showing off her wonderful eye set.
