You may have been keeping your own archives for your program, which you’d like to include in this Historic Record for our breed. Or you may be a custodian or have records of Breed Archives that you would like to transfer to a public space, but daunted by the task or don’t have the time to manage a space.
Well, I had the public space and the means to give it a format that is workable for research. So I’ve repurposed it from being just my personal TCUK Ancestors records to a place where all Past/Present Breeders can store their information too. The good thing is this method needs very little intervention or management, so it’s got longevity.
It’s fairly simple to submit your information as long as you keep to the following format and method:
1) You submit it via email to Kelly.McGlasson.TCUK@blogger.com
1.1) ONLY 1 CAT PER EMAIL. We need to have each as a separate entry on these records to keep the service meaningful. If you are submitting historical scanned photos or digital photos with more than one cat featuring, please make a separate email for each cat that features in the picture. Contact me if you need help.
1.2) The email subject takes this format: “Historic Reference Photo - the cat's full name here”.
1.3) ADD CAT PHOTO(S), be sure to Trim/Tidy edges of your photos before including them.
1.4) ADD LINES INFO/PHOTO. Add scanned or screenshots of the bloodlines, please be sure to tidy by trimming the picture before including.
2) OTHER INFO If you have any other information you may feel is relevant, you can handwrite it and take a photo, or type it into a word processor then take a screenshot and include that picture. Http links are also ok to add too.
2.1) IDENTIFY WHO’S WHO If more than one cat features in a picture please write “FEATURED the position within the composition of the photo” (e.g., “FEATURED FRONT CENTRE”). You will need to repeat that step for each cat featured IF you think they deserve an entry in their own right on this research database (and there are no entries already for this cat). Note, if they are non-active registered and never have been, then there’s no reason to include them.
2.2) CAT EXISTS ALREADY BUT I HAVE MORE INFO If you have more photos or information on a cat that already has an entry in this place, then please follow the above format as if they were a completely new entry. I will amalgamate everything new you’ve provided from the Draft Post to the original entry, rather than multiple entries per cat.
3) JUST POST THE INFO, INCLUDE NOTHING ELSE Remember, you’re not emailing me, you’re emailing directly as a post to the server. So please DO NOT include any conversational sentences or signatures/signing off within the email body. Only words you want included within the post to the database.
3.1) IF YOU NEED TO TELL ME SUPPLEMENTARY INFO about your post to the blogger server, then email me directly.
3.2) HOW TO REPORT INACCURACIES/ERRORS If you see something wrong, please use the REPORT AN ERROR Contact Form located in the left sidebar.
4) WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SEND MY EMAIL TO BLOGGER
The email is submitted directly to the server, which automatically converts it to a post but in Draft Status for review. This enables me to size and centre pictures, run spell checks, and add a post label “Historic Reference” so it can be picked up under the Breed Historic Reference tab. Basically, check it’s all received okay before it’s Published. Plus it stops any spam mails or offensive content tainting this reference resource.
5) CORRECT FORMAT WILL BE PUBLISHED QUICKER. Providing the guidelines have been followed, it will not need any further work to it and can be immediately published. Delays will happen if the guidelines are not followed meaning further formatting needs doing or incompatible inclusions need to be stripped out. So please don’t include zip folders or access links to Dropbox or other permission-only spaces, etc., as these will not work.
Finally, if you want to know when cats have been added to this space (whether it’s your work or others) then you can utilise the subscribe via email in the sidebar. You will be notified by email every time an ancestor is added in a newsletter-type format. Alternatively type a keyword used in your post that would uniquely identify and see results. If it’s been actioned it will display.
