Photo Update - Declan x Spud Boys.

We have 2 really lovely boys from Spud and Declan born 1st March, looking for a home.  Totallycoastal Daytripper (AKA Daley) and Totallycoastal InTheNavy (AKA Davey) are really nice example of the breed.

They are really getting bulky now and have definitely got the long legs from their dam, Spud.  Daley is a straight-footed boy, extremely spotty coat, nice large head on his shoulders which will add to that wild cat look.  He saunters around like a lion overseeing his pride.  He has a 3/4 length tail.

Davey is completely oblivious to anything around him other than playing, cuddles and his dinner (in that order).   He has a super diamond muzzle which he has inherited from his mum, a great eye shape and profile from his father.. a nice bobtail, dark hocks and both these boys have very friendly gentle natures. Davey is showable, should anyone wish to embark into Cat Fancy as a hobby, but would be more than happy to be a pampered top quality pet.

Here's a few pictures of Daley and Davey at 2 months for you to enjoy.

Update - Spud U Like shoot.

It's been an age since we posted any pictures of the huge Spud (Ansonroad Kartafla Muffindottir).  So we felt it was time we did.  Back to her former pre-pregnancy weight of 16lbs, Spud is the biggest female we have here at Totallycoastal, and in fact she's bigger than a lot of our boys.  These lines are renowned for their size.  We hope to blend them with some of our very typey, but smaller cats to get some nice kittens with good overall look.  Spud is a 3/4 length tail, straight-footed long haired female, with nice long legs and a very loving temperament.

Update - Photoshoot of the 4 Spudlets!

Some first time mums do not settle into attentive natural nuturers from the off.  We tragically lost of 2 of the spudlets within the first 24 hours of them being born, due to Spud laying on them and crushing them.

However, she has now got the hang of things now, and you couldn't wish for a better mum for these babies.  She is watching them like a hawk and spend lots of time meticulously cleaning them and making sure all are feeding properly.

The 2 kittens that we lost were both boys (a bobcat length tail and a short riser).  This leaves us with 4 lively kittens (1 boy, and 3 girls).

The sex change fairy visited us since our initial post about the Spudlet (originally stated as 5 boys and 1 girl).  2 girls have nice bobcat length tails, and third has a shorter bobtail which is still longer than a riser.  The Boy has a chunky long riser tail.

All of these kittens are straight-footed and long legged, and are from lines that produce very big cats.. Spud is testimony to that as she weighed in at a whooping 19lb before her pregnency.   Admitedly she was a tad over weight, but her frame is absolutely massive.  Even sheding a few pounds, she will still weigh in around 15lbs, which is massize for a female (some Males espire to weights like this).

Anyway, I took group and individual photos this morning, so you can see what's we will have available.  1 is already spoken for and possibly 2.  So if you are interested in any of these babies, please contact us immediately to discuss your requirements.

Announcement - The Long Awaited Spudlets Arrive!!!

Lil Spud (who is in fact the biggest cat I have), had her kittens @ 4:30pm yesterday afternoon.  This movieclip was taken 3 hours later, once they were all clean and dried of and had a first feed.

Pictures will be following very shortly of the above 6 kittens... which are ALL bobtails.  We have deferred posting all the litter pictures and details,  as we are still awaiting the arrival of Annie Os litter.  After which our WHO'S THE DADDY competition will commence.

I hope you are enjoying the few sneak previews I've posted so far... and its already getting those grey cells thinking about possible sires!

Announcement - Spuds Expecting!

Hot Off the Press News!!!  iPHONE Pictures and Movieclips of Queen Spud, captures the truth.

Finally Spud is blooming and ballooning... She is due kittens soon, which we are eagerly awaiting!  This will be Queen Lil' Spuds first litter, so we are very excited, about what lovely babies she'll give us.

Spud is a 3/4 length tail girl and she was paired to a Hock tail Stud boy, which we are hoping will be a winning combination for Naturally Short Bobtails...  This boy also has equally long legs as Spud so we know were gonna that trait.  Their face compliment each other very well, so again we hope for some stunning features.  Ollie is our most experienced Stud Boy and it seems thats what Spud was holding out for... if only we'd tried this combination in the beginning!  These kittens will be all Shorthair, but will carry for long.  Please contact Us if you have any interest.

Pixiebobs, their Tricks and Funny ways

I have more than my fair share of Pixiebobs, and I have noticed over time how the girls seem to develop their own little tricks. Not sure why none of my boys invent things, their interests are soley on Women, Food and Sleep and a lot of fuss made over them (sound familar ;oP). They'll sometimes pick up on a trick if it benefits them in some way but otherwise thay are just not interested.

Anyway this has become such a prominent thing amongst them, that I just had to write a blog entry for it. Everyone knows Pixiebobs are highly intelligent so in a way this doing tricks thing is not surprising. The thing that is amazing about this, is they are not taught these things. Like you'd teach a dog to roll over or beg etc. They either learn from observation, or they just logically think its the sensible thing to do.  OK so enough rambling, lets get down to what each of these girls does.

Starlight, well her favorite thing is opening doors.  Now I'm not talking cupboards here, quite a few cats learn this and usual the cupboard with the food in... I'm talking a full size room door with a latch handle. She jumps up, grabs the handle and pulls it down, shifts her weight so it opens. She even sometimes closes them, standing on her back legs and leaning on it!  Her next favourite thing is turning on lights, unfortunately she hasn't yet decided to turn them back off again but maybe thats to come.  Luckily this is only the pull cord variety so restricted to both toilets and the bathroom, but she'll jump up and grab the cord with her paw. I wouldnt be surprised if she doesnt work out a regular switch sooner or later, she is by far the most observant of them all.

Alessi her thing is turning on taps, and opening cupboard doors. She has now taught the tap trick to Starlight and Paddy too. Even Ed has a go, but hasnt quite got the hang of it.

Shenona does have her little trick, but it is only to spite the others and claim her property.. She can be a minx at times.  Anyway her thing is to drink the water she wants, and then wee in the bowl so no one else can drink from it.  Thankfully she only seems to favour one of the bowls as hers, and the others she leaves alone.

The latest thing is Lil' Spud, I have no idea where she got it from... She uses her litter tray and then afterwards she washes her paws.  Now I'm not talking licking them, I mean she sticks them in a bowl of water gives them a good old swish around and then pulls them out and licks them dry.  It had been for some time that I kept finding one of the water bowls with residues of litter in the bottom of it.  It was no where near a tray and I couldnt work out how it was happening. Then yesterday, I saw Spud washing her feet, mystery solved... like why didn't I think of that before!!  Anyway she has claimed this bowl as her foot bath.

None of them seem to bother doing anything other than drink from the water fountains so I've resigned myself to buying several more of these... the only way to ensure they'll have drinking water available.  But they are the most funniest intelligent cats I've ever shared my life with.

Now I know its not just MY Pixiebobss that do tricks (many owners and breeders have reported this). Although I've yet to come across any that do the same as mine.

They also have little quirks, Shenona makes a funny little sucking movement like a baby with a dummy. Star likes to ride on my shoulder, Alessi adores sinks, Ollie obsesses with plastic bags and has to sit on it or claw it, Morgana obesses with Feathers. Spud has to be close to your skin so will try to climb inside your clothes, Ed wants to eat all day and Paddy would put Play above Eat, Sleep or breathing if he could. They are so individual and never cease to make me laugh.
