Annoucement - Jubilate for Alessi Quintet

Our longhair Poly footed queen Ansonroad Alessi, gave birth to 5 very chunky lively babies on the Bank Holiday Monday of the Jubilee weekend.   We are pleased to announce we have 3 boys and 2 girls in this litter.  Both poly and straightfooted, bob and longtail combinations are available.  These were as previously mentioned sired by our homebred stud boy Totallycoastal Jolly Roger.   This of course will be an exception to the rule of our naming conventions.  We simply have to opt for name in accordance to the Diamond Jubilee of our Queen.

I am currently evaluating all of these kittens against our current waiting list requirements.  However, if you wish to add yourself, by all means contact us.  We are expecting more exciting litters this breeding season, so if you miss out on this occssion,  you still will have an opportunity to get the PUUURRRRFECT Pixiebob for you.

Update - Poly Foot Covered, we hope.

As well as our gorgeous girl Shenona being paired to  the quad poly Declan.  We edged our bets on big, longhaired and/or poly foot kittens. 

We've mated a while back (another homebred longhair carrier) Joe to Alessi.  Joe is a shorthaired, straight-footed male (that is now in a breeding program in France), and Alessi is a longhaired, poly footed girl, purchased in 2010.   Both these cats are big boned and chunky.  Needless to say, Alessi is looking very rotund and content,  so we don't need any finger crossing for this pairing. 

Like Shenona, she gave us a lovely litter in 2010 (Sandy,  Clarance, Celia, Van and Barbie), and now second time around looking for that finale.  Once again this is most likely to be a swan song for this queen. 

She is in her own room with 3 different kittening boxes, and believe me she's tried them all... but this week, she seems to have picked the one she most likes, and is hiding in away in there a lot of the time (out of cameras view).  So watch this space.

Pixiebobs, their Tricks and Funny ways

I have more than my fair share of Pixiebobs, and I have noticed over time how the girls seem to develop their own little tricks. Not sure why none of my boys invent things, their interests are soley on Women, Food and Sleep and a lot of fuss made over them (sound familar ;oP). They'll sometimes pick up on a trick if it benefits them in some way but otherwise thay are just not interested.

Anyway this has become such a prominent thing amongst them, that I just had to write a blog entry for it. Everyone knows Pixiebobs are highly intelligent so in a way this doing tricks thing is not surprising. The thing that is amazing about this, is they are not taught these things. Like you'd teach a dog to roll over or beg etc. They either learn from observation, or they just logically think its the sensible thing to do.  OK so enough rambling, lets get down to what each of these girls does.

Starlight, well her favorite thing is opening doors.  Now I'm not talking cupboards here, quite a few cats learn this and usual the cupboard with the food in... I'm talking a full size room door with a latch handle. She jumps up, grabs the handle and pulls it down, shifts her weight so it opens. She even sometimes closes them, standing on her back legs and leaning on it!  Her next favourite thing is turning on lights, unfortunately she hasn't yet decided to turn them back off again but maybe thats to come.  Luckily this is only the pull cord variety so restricted to both toilets and the bathroom, but she'll jump up and grab the cord with her paw. I wouldnt be surprised if she doesnt work out a regular switch sooner or later, she is by far the most observant of them all.

Alessi her thing is turning on taps, and opening cupboard doors. She has now taught the tap trick to Starlight and Paddy too. Even Ed has a go, but hasnt quite got the hang of it.

Shenona does have her little trick, but it is only to spite the others and claim her property.. She can be a minx at times.  Anyway her thing is to drink the water she wants, and then wee in the bowl so no one else can drink from it.  Thankfully she only seems to favour one of the bowls as hers, and the others she leaves alone.

The latest thing is Lil' Spud, I have no idea where she got it from... She uses her litter tray and then afterwards she washes her paws.  Now I'm not talking licking them, I mean she sticks them in a bowl of water gives them a good old swish around and then pulls them out and licks them dry.  It had been for some time that I kept finding one of the water bowls with residues of litter in the bottom of it.  It was no where near a tray and I couldnt work out how it was happening. Then yesterday, I saw Spud washing her feet, mystery solved... like why didn't I think of that before!!  Anyway she has claimed this bowl as her foot bath.

None of them seem to bother doing anything other than drink from the water fountains so I've resigned myself to buying several more of these... the only way to ensure they'll have drinking water available.  But they are the most funniest intelligent cats I've ever shared my life with.

Now I know its not just MY Pixiebobss that do tricks (many owners and breeders have reported this). Although I've yet to come across any that do the same as mine. 

They also have little quirks, Shenona makes a funny little sucking movement like a baby with a dummy. Star likes to ride on my shoulder, Alessi adores sinks, Ollie obsesses with plastic bags and has to sit on it or claw it, Morgana obesses with Feathers. Spud has to be close to your skin so will try to climb inside your clothes, Ed wants to eat all day and Paddy would put Play above Eat, Sleep or breathing if he could. They are so individual and never cease to make me laugh.

Alessi and Her Obsession with Sinks

I dont know what it is with this girl, but even as a kitten she was obessed with sinks and running water.  We all know Pixies love water.  But Alessi sleeps in the sink, prefers to have her dinner served by the sink, an d as soon as there's a running tap you can guarantee she'll be first to come dart to it. She can even turn taps on if they are the lever kind. She has also now taught this trick to Star and Ed when he first arrived... So if any are in this room the plug is stowed away in the cupboard.. for fear of a flood. LOL!

As well as displaying her Sink Fetish, I think these photos show off her great profile, and the first one her beautiful coat. She is has such a Red coat, I think we'd be extremely hard pushed to better this colour, ever! The second looks a little faded, because of the flash causing the camera to pick up her ticking.  We are hoping she passes this amazing colour amongst other things, to her kittens.  It is simply a perfect match to the Coastal Red Bobcat.

Wild but Mild Alessi

I just had to share with you the latest Wild looking photos of Our Queen Alessi, working that moody stare.  Deep set eyes, and massive Poly paws gives her a real Bobcatty appearance.  Doesn't she look fabulous.

Bobcats Vs. Pixiebobs

Left is a Bobcat Kitten, yet to develop its full red toned coat.

Right is Our Pixiebob (kitten) future stud Edward Red Esq. The camera's are not quite at the same angle, but you can how closely a pixiebob mimics a bobcat, without combining any bobcat genes.

Ed is 100% pure Pixiebob.

 

 

Pixiebobs are NOT a hybrid breed. You'll clearly see that we aim to replicate the Muzzle Shape, the Deep Brow, Ear tufts, large Fleshy paws, chunky Legs and all the markings of the spotty coat Bobcat (Lynx Rufus). Again is another comparison on Bobcat (on the right) and Pixiebob, this time Alessi (on the left).

Brow lines become straighter and more defined as a Pixiebob matures, and it will always be more prominent in a male than a female. This also rings true for the bobcat as well, as shown in the Bobcat kitten (top left) and the adult shown (bottom right).

Camera Shy Alessi

Here are a few Sneaky snaps we got of her.

We can't understand why Alessi hates the camera. She really is a stunning pixiebob and should flaunt it. We'll have to keep working on this one I think. Just a hint of her poly feet on show in this picture. But what she does show well here is the great pear shape head that ALL pixiebobs have. A good wide head and exact ear set (not too flayed and not too upright).

Demonstrating that the ticking in a longhair can obsure the spotty coat from some angles. At least she has decided to grace us with a lovely face shot, to show off the fantastic eye shape and good strong wide diamond muzzle. Alessi has a particularly strong red coat of the Coastal Red Bobcat. We hope a pairing with Ed Red who also carries this strong red tones will produce a fantastic litter for us here at Totally Coastal. Watch this space in the New Year...

Alessi Diva Girl

I am sure diva Alessi would kick butt with her moody heavy brow, very full puffed whisker pads, massive POLY PAWS, and Absolutely perfect profile and amber peircing eyes. She Scream bobcat in appearance. Alas Alessi is so wild looking, but her tail is past the showable length. I plan to mate Alessi later in the year to one of Our Show Boys, in hope that we get some perfectly showable tailed babes with all Mum and Dads best features.
