Owners Update - HMS Alyssum (now Tabitha)

"I thought you might like an update on how Tabitha is. She's in very good health. Very agile, fit and strong. The laser mouse is by far her favourite game. Followed by knocking things of the shelf. She went through a phrase of steeling my memory sticks. I had to buy small tub with locking lid.

We keep her food upstairs on the middle landing to stop the dogs from steeling it. She has a big appetite for a small cat. The moment you go anywhere near the stairs, SHE THERE from nowhere, chirping away.

She targets Dave the most. She has him wrapped around her little paw. We do let her outside. She has a lot of energy to burn off."

She goes on to say....

"And if you do something, not to her liking (moving my pillow when she's made herself comfortable on it). She's got a mean right hook.....

The attachment: I don't think I sent you this picture. It's still my favourite. I had it printed onto a large canvas and has pride of place in our living room I also use it as my PC wallpaper.

Update - Eyes Open for HMS Alyssum Six!

We named this litter after Kent Coastal Towns.  All six of these Bobtail Balls of Fluff, have really strong muzzles... which is what I was expecting. Their Dam has a super one, and Sire Van is not bad in that department either.  They also have a decent eye shape for young kittens, which I am very pleased with. Again the parent have that covered, so it was pretty good guess that these babies would fair well there too, unless some odd throwback happened.  Finely, they also got some great rich rufus colour and pattern to their thick wooly coats.  Which means they have a super stand off shorthaired coat with desirable muted spotting.

They all grow up so quickly... It only seems like yesterday, I was sitting with Alyssum while she delivered these beauties.  However the key thing about this post is, all the kittens eyes are open, and they are scooting around already very active, and leading mum a merry dance now.

 

We will be keeping one of the females from this litter, as yet we are not 100% certain which one, but we've narrowed it to a possible 2.  We chose this option above keeping Heidi, so sorry guys and girls, only 5 of the 6 kittens will be available.  This still leaves us 2 boys and 3 girls looking for homes (after we've made our choice), plus mum HMS Alyssum of course.  Dad Van is moving to another breed program, to work his magic there..and in return we're getting ourselves a longhaired male with new lines... but I'll save that story for a later date.

OK, so the kittens eyes are open wheres the photos?  We've taken a few group shots.... but you'll be pleased to know, we've also taken the liberty to put a names to a face for you.  After this post, we'll be publishing each kitten with their own blog entry, so you can began to familiarise yourself with whos who. 

I have studied and seen subtle differences between coat pattern, shade and maybe a slight different eye or muzzle...but I have to confess, they are all quite similar at the moment.... so it may take a couple of weeks more before you can tell them all apart.  Anyway hope you enjoy this latest update.

Update - Six More Names and a Theme??

We have to confess we were expecting to only have to think of half the number of names for HMS Alyssums litter.  What we've realised is Van seems to be very verile and has produced large litters even with first time mums.  God only knows what size litter we'd have if we paired him with a queen that had already had a litter...and NO WE'RE NOT intending to try that experiment!

Anyway, back to the matter in hand... firstly another Nautical theme.. secondly names related to it.  We have 4 girls and 2 boys in this litter.  All with very distinguished strong faces.  If they had been mainly boys, I think I would have opted for Famous Naval Officers or Famous Naval Battles, but mostly girls that would be a tough cookie to make that work.   We've almost exhausted the Phrases one, it would have just about stretched for another 2 or 3 names, but 6 no way!  Warship Names; Beach Holidays; Things found on or in a Beach; Nautical Measurements; Nautical Songs and even Pirates Names all been used.

Over this past 2 weeks I have been racking my brains... Rope Spices and Knots was a possibility... There were some Net ones and an Anchor one which were obvious, but YAWN boring names.  The remainder listed I couldn't work out which ones were used for nautical purposes, from ones that were not.  So gave up on that too! 

After thinking long and hard on this, I have decided on generic names using Kent Coastal Towns.  Not exactly inspirational, but better than Sheepshead Shank Knot or Half Hitch.  Rather than explain any further, I'll list them for you to see.  I have yet to associate nicknames to all of these...  I think at the moment I am edging towards Cliff (no pun intended) for the first one, Belle for (Whitstable) and Bailey (for Herne Bay) the rest are yet to be decided, I've put some provisional ones I could think of that but these may change.  By all means suggest some if you have any ideas, taking into account that I would not reuse any nickname from a previous litter, and its girls names I need.

Announcement - Totallycoastal HMS Alyssum Six

Our 18m old homebred girl Totallycoastal HMS Alyssum, gave birth to 6 bumper kittens on the 26th September.  This expectant litter was the reason for letting the gorgeous Heidi leave us.  She was the best of Van x Shanty's litter, but we have expected kittens back from Broadside and Lily intended (Shantys Brother and Shantys Cousin), so it made more sense to keep from Alyssum x Van pairing instead.

Alyssum is a first time mum with a big litter, so we wanted to see how things went before we announced the arrival to the world.  She may have decided 6 kittens was all a bit much, and rejected some or all of them.  I can thankfully say that despite the numbers, she been an absolutely model mother, is coping really well and all kittens are thriving.

As already mentioned, the sire is once again is our loveable Van.  He passed on his short tail gene to the entire litter, (a super result for us).  There are 4 girls and 2 boys all sporting NST (Naturally Short Tails), straight-feet and shorthair, with the nicest range of breed standard colouring (brown with black spotting).

I am hoping to take some pictures at the weekend of the pixie pile for you all to see. I haven't yet choose which kitten will stay.  I think I have narrowed it down to a possible 2, but it's gonna take a few weeks more of evaluating to finally decide. 

Already we have several people waiting in the wings to reserve, so if you are interested I suggest you're quick and be added to our waiting list to avoid disappointment.   These kittens will be ready to leave us just before Christmas, as will mum.  Van is available now as a pet or as a stud boy.

HMS Alyssum has a super, super muzzle and chin, we kept her in our program for this reason despite her having a long tail.  Now that she has given us a litter to choose from with great looks, and to continue both her and Vans line, we can look for a lovely pet home for her to bring a New Year in.  If you are interested in either Mum or Dad, then please contact us.

Photo Updates of HMS Alyssum

As well as Dakota having Annie O, we had 3 beautiful pixiebob kittens born to Nebraska. These were names the HMS 3, HMS Martin, HMS Alyssum and finally HMS Mayflower. Here's the latest pictures of Alyssum..definately Her Most Spottiest!  Alsyssum has a fabulous hooded eye, perfect ear set, strong muzzle and pear shaped head. Very similar to her brother Martin in her face. She will have a rugged wild bob-catty face when she matures, and good size. We think our longtail kittens look equally wild.. like lion cubs. The name has stuck and so they are affectionately knowns as "Our Cubbies".

Alyssum is a Shorthair pixiebob with superb coat type and pattern. All these bars ARE broken so as Alyssum matures the spots will be very nice. Fantastic Chuncky build to this girl. She is a straight foot but her legs and paws are very substantial and remind me of Big Mac Supersize Me.  She has a full tail, so could not be shown at championship level not matter how good she is, unless we transferred her to Pets section.  We are evaluating Alyssum, to see if she will be Breeder Grade to an existing experienced program.  We think that Ed and Nebraska lines combined will be a winning combination. 

In shorthairs ear tufts can take a little while to develop, some have them from day 1, others aquire them with time, and some never have them.  We can say that, this girls Ear Tufts are just sprouting.

With this coat and face, she'll be absolutely stunning.  The spots with be perfectly muted but still visable, so will also make a very exceptional pet also. Please contact us if you like the look of Alyssum.

Alyssum wasnt that keen to be in front of a camera by herself... a retiring violet!  So we have only got a few photo's, but I hope as she gets a little older she'll not be so shy.. She has such a gorgeously sweet face, already showing good conformation overall despite the full tail...just look at her.

The Nautical 3 are almost 3 weeks old now!

The kittens are now old enough to start having their individual portraits posted.  So you can keep a track on your own personal favourite (HMS Martin, HMS Alyssum or HMS Mayflower).

We once again diversed from the Nautical theme with Annie O, for good reason. 

But now back to the usual trend, and without further ado, I name these babies.... HMS Martin, HMS Mayflower and HMS Alyssum. I dont anticipate cracking a bottle of champers on their heads, or following with the statement with "may God bless them and all who sail....".

You're thinking I'm crazy to name them after warships!!  True, I would be if that were the case, except HMS stands for His/Her Majesty Spotty.... as they are exactly that. This litter is extremely well marked, all lovely spotty kittens.  So welcome to His Majesty Spotty Martin, Her Majesty Spotty Mayflower and finally Her Majesty Spotty Alyssum.
